교재: 공립학교 교재 및 JJLC 자체 학습자료
내용: 각 요일에 배정된 수업을 수강하고, 그와 관련된 사항을 문제풀이 형식으로 진행하며, 캐나다 학교에서 효율적으로 공부하는 요령 및 학생 스스로가 공부를 할 수 있는 능력을 유도함으로써, CSA프로그램 후에, 혼자서도 성공적으로 자신의 목표를 달성할 수 있도록 지도. 또한, 학교에서 받아온 과제, 프로젝트 및 에세이 도움
1단계: 성적 50~60% 학생 (Main Target): 공부의 동기부여 제공
2단계: 성적 70~80% 학생 (Main Target): 많은 학습량으로 인한 공부의 습관 들이기
3단계:성적 80~95% 학생: 선생님들과의 원활한 관계(신뢰)를 통한 구체적 목표 및 동기부여
4단계:성적 90~100% 학생: 뚜렷한 목표확립과 지향성확보 (자기주도 학습형 학생)

WRITING
Introductory English Writing Skills
1. Spelling
– Tips for perfect spelling
– Spelling list homework
– Spelling quizzes each class
2. Sentence construction
– How to convey one idea in one sentence
– What to avoid when writing sentences
– Grammatical essential (subject, verb, etc).
– Linking words (because, but, and, etc.)
3. Paragraph construction
– Conveying one idea in one paragraph
– Three parts of a paragraph: Beginning, Middle (Body), End
– Topic sentences
– Transition sentences
– Students will practice writing paragraphs on topics of their choice, and topics decided upon by the instructor
4. Vocabulary:
– Students will learn many words each class, and they will use these new words in sentences to ensure that they remember them.
– Students will learn not learn words randomly; they will be able to learn vocabulary tools to find root words (apprehension – root word – apprehend) to drastically increase their English vocabularies.
Reading Comprehension and Writing
Students will be given news articles to read and they will write paragraphs concerning their opinions on what they have read. This allows beginner students to develop the following skills:
1. Reading comprehension
2. Spelling
3. Vocabulary
4. Personal comfort and confidence in writing
5. Critical thinking skills
Intensive Vocabulary Section
– In this part of the course, students will have classes devoted to expanding their vocabularies
– The instructor will provide the student with reading materials and have he or she identify all of the unknown words. The instructor will provide the definition and have the student use these words in written sentences and in spoken conversation. This provides students with excellent written and verbal vocabulary abilities.
– Upon completing this section of the course, students will have a much larger vocabulary than before.
– In addition, they will have developed habits like looking up unfamiliar words in the dictionary and breaking down words to their root words that they will continue to enjoy a growth in their vocabularies for years to come.
Review, Quizzes and Writing Sessions
READING
– Students will learn words in an enjoyable way (games, puzzles, etc.)
– Students will use the words they have learned in fun exercises in order to create a lasting familiarity with them.
– By using an exciting and fun way of teaching the young students, they will grow to enjoy learning new words.
– The instructor will determine the students’ interests and provide them with lists of books they could read at home. By motivating your child to read at home for a few minutes each day, your child will build a foundation that will improve their success in school and professional environments later in life.

WRITING
Introductory English Writing Skills
1. Sentence construction
– The grammatical structure of sentences (noun, verb, etc.)
– The different types of sentences (simple, compound, complex, etc.)
– The two important qualities of effective sentences: clarity and conciseness.
– Using sentence connectors (‘so’ and ‘because’)
– Students will practice writing descriptive sentences, simple thesis statements and creative sentences.
2. Paragraph construction
– Conveying one idea in one paragraph
– Three parts of a paragraph: Beginning, Middle (Body), End
– Topic sentences
– Transition sentences
– Students will practice writing paragraphs on topics of their choice, and topics decided upon by the instructor
3. Essay construction
– Five paragraph basic essay (the type that the B.C. education system requires all students to be able to produce)
– Body evidence: using clear evidence and many examples to support the thesis statement
– How to write successful conclusions (with examples and exercises)
– Students will learn various brainstorming exercises to create essay theses
– Students will practice essay writing to prepare them for entry into advanced essay writing

High school students will have the opportunity to practice writing essays on topics that have been used for past B.C. provincial exams. This will prepare them for being able to succeed when facing the challenges unique to that exam.
